Existing Homes Sales Rise 5 % in the United States

February home sales rose 5 % unexpectedly recovering from the previous month's sharp drop according to a industry report released by the Nation Association Of Realtors . Sales rose to 4,700,000 units up 5.1 % from 4,490,000 in January . First time home buyers made up 50 % of all home purchases.

According to the data recently released by the United States Census Bureau , the Logan Metropoltian area which is composed of Cache County and Franklin County it is the 9th fastest growing area in the country. This data was collected from July of 2007 thru July of 2008. The area had a 3.2 percent growth during this time period. The contributing factors were low unemployment rates , stable housing market.

This new bill gives a $8,000 tax credit that is available to 1st-time home buyers for the purchase of a principal residence after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009. This credit need not be repaid as long as you live in the home 3 years. The tax credit will be claimed on a tax return to reduce the purchaser's income tax . If any credit remains unused, the unused amount will be refunded as a check to the home owner.
